The primary stat for big guns is endurance, and having more points in it will increase the damage done by these weapons. You see, there just aren't many Big Guns in Fallout 3. Most of the Big Guns are pretty well complimented with some degree of Small Guns, energy or melee weapons skill to provide a greater variety of options. If you take this type of proficiency, it will be a little while into the game before you find your first Big Gun, but you'll probably not be dissapointed once you've got it.
